The town lies on the northern side of the West Branch of the Penobscot River, seventy miles north of Bangor. The town was incorporated on February 21,1907.

This rural Northern Maine community has a population of approximately 1860 people, rich in many different ethnic backgrounds.  With an interesting history of being started around the business of papermaking to moving into the 21st century with
many ideas of economic development, we welcome you.

Please sit back and tour our town to see what a great area we have to visit, vacation, relax and enjoy a day or a lifetime.
