Our recreation department offers many programs for the youth and young at heart in
our town. We work with the Recreation Department in our neighbor town of Medway to
co- sponsor many of the programs. Please scroll down the page to see the activities
that are available throughout the year. Please contact the office for a complete detailed
list of activities as there are many that are not listed on this site.
Spring
In March we have a
Father/Daughter dance and a Mother/Son dance for our younger children.
For Easter we have
an Easter Egg hunt at the Opal Myrick Elementary School.
During the months
of April, May and June we offer a girls Lassie League softball program and a boys Little
League baseball program.
Summer
During the summer
months we have many activities going on at our recreation complex located on North Street.
Many of the activities begin in June and run through August.
The public
pool is open from the end of June to the end of August.
There are also swimming leasons available(please check with rec. director for
times).
Pool Hours: 1 to 4 daily and Mon., Wed. and Fri 6 - 7:30
The
playground located behind the pool is supervised, beginning
in June, Monday - Friday from 1 to 3:45 and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to
11:20. Please check with the attendants at the playground for special trips and activities
throughout the summer.
An
arts and crafts program is available to young
children at Schenck High School Auditorium(next to the rec. complex) from 9 - 11:30 Monday
- Friday beginning in June.
We offer a boys and
girls basketball program for for students entering grades 9 - 12. The program runs
for June and July and wraps up with a Summer Basketball Festival held at Schenck High
School with teams from all over Maine competing.
Mt
Katahdin Basketball Camp
The rec dept and Unicel team together to offer a week long basketball clinic to
children in grades 3 - 10 in June. The clinic includes drills, films, foul shooting,
games, shooting contest and awards. Please call the rec office for more information
and times.
Soccer
School
The rec. dept has teamed with Major League Soccer camps to
offer an opportunity for all ages to learn new skills at a week long camp offered in
July. Please call the office for dates and times.
Fall
We have an exercise
class available in the Auditorium of the Municipal Building from 9 - 10 A.M. Monday
- Friday.
The Recreation
Department and East Branch Martial Arts team together to offer kickboxing and karate
lessons throughout the year beginning in September. Please call Adam McLaughlin at
746-5098 for more information.
Soccer programs are
available for children in grades K - 3 on Sunday afternoons. There is also a traveling
junior league team for grades 4 - 6 that have games with other teams from the area.
A Quilt workshop is
offered in Setember - December.
The East
Millinocket Senior Citizens meet every Monday at 1 P.M. in the downstairs of the Municipal
Building beginning in August.
Winter
PeeWee basketball
programs are available for children in grades 3 - 6. There is also a
traveling All-Star team selected from these teams that competes with other teams
throughout Northern Maine.
Open gym at Schenck
High School on Sunday is from 1 - 2:30 for grades 3 - 6 and 2:30 - 4 and 6 - 8 for
students in grade 7 and up.
Holiday Lighting
and Christmas Party is held at the Opal Myrick School in early December.
The Senior Citizens
Christmas lunch will be held in December in the Banquet Room of the Municipal Building.
We also offer a
skating rink behind the tennis courts for all of the outdoor activity enthusiasts. The
rink opens as soon as the weather permits.
Early morning
workout is available at Schenck High School from 5 - 7 A.M. in the gym and weight room
from December - April.
In January we offer a youth
basketball program for grades K - 2.
In February we offer an indoor
soccer program for grades K - 4.
